My Mana Tane

My Mana Tane is my brother, Justin. He has brown eyes, dark brown skin, black curly hair, black eyebrows, and dreadlocks. He always wears hats outside and mostly black clothes. He’s like six foot one and has two Māori tattoos. He likes horse riding on the farm, he even likes hunting and fishing. He likes to eat fish and pork. We like to play rugby and basketball together.

I love my brother Justin.

Kia ora.  Today I am going to talk about why everyone should learn how to cook. Cooking is a real-life skill, cooking at home is often more cost-effective than buying takeaways and cooking is fun as there are many ways to cook.

Cooking is a real life skill. When you grow up you might want to go flatting or have a family. You should learn how to cook. The best time to learn how to cook is when you are young. My Gramz used to buy ‘Hello Fresh’ in a box to teach us kids to cook.  The recipes are fun, different, and easy to follow.  Maybe we could do some cooking lessons at school. You can choose healthy meat, vegies and fruit too. These make your body feel great.

If you haven’t learnt how to cook you would have to buy expensive takeaways. You may not have enough money – then you will starve. Here is an example: a McDonalds meal deal for four people costs $42. If you cook this at home, you will need burger buns, meat patties, salad, cheese, tomato sauce and frozen chips. This will cost around $18.00 for 4 people. That is way less than half.  It is a lot of fun but don’t burn the fries !!

Cooking is fun. There are many ways to cook –  like Italian spaghetti and Indian curry and great New Zealand recipes too, for example chowder, pork roast or fish and chips straight from the garden and the sea to the table. it takes skill to cook. You never stop learning. You make healthy and nutritious food. It costs less but it tastes lovely. Cooking for people makes them happy and you too, like baking a delicious chocolate birthday cake.  Yum! That is why people love to cook.

One of the first things I learnt how to cook was pancakes on Sunday mornings. To make them,  all you need is flour, sugar, eggs, baking powder and milk. The main tools you will need are beaters and a pan. Then pour maple syrup all over the pancakes.  Delicious!!! The best part is everybody will love them and be so happy.

Cooking is a real-life skill, cooking at home is often more cost-effective than buying takeaways and cooking is fun as there are many ways to cook. I think you should agree that everyone should learn how to cook!

Matariki Festival

Last Friday was the Matariki Festival. Awanui School welcomed us. There was Pukenui, Waiharara, Ngataki, Te Kao and Te Hapua. There were a lot of schools from the North. We were the last school to perform. I felt so proud! After the performance, there was a hangi, and it was delicious.
